Derwent Water and Walla Crag

about six miles in, Walla Crag on the right

The plan tonight was a decent length run, practicing taking on food and drink, slow pace with a climb thrown in after a decent run in.  Jonathan and I have entered the Scafell Trail Marathon this weekend.  The course is fairly familiar territory, taking up bits of the Cumbria Way trail along Derwent Water and including going up Scafell Pike via the Corridor Route and back down over Broad Crag. Great End, Esk Hause.  It was a beautiful sunny evening.  Having set my heart on 15 miles, I had to do this length of run so we did run around Keswick a bit (including a few laps of the mini-golf course).  The climb up Walla Crag was taken at a steady pace and, although 2000ft lower than Scafell Pike, it still gave us some good experience of climbing in the middle of a run.  We tried to pick a different route out on the way back down, with the aim of adding in the extra distance until the magic 15.  Ultimately it led to us wandering through woodland and was not as good as our usual route.  Still mission accomplished.  Now it's time to rest up (mostly).
